Nested Master Pages

.Net allows you to create nested master page. Nested master page means one master page referencing other master page as its master. Nested Master page allows creating componentized master pages.

Here is an elaboration of creation of nested master page

Create a project and let us say we call it NestedMasterPage

Add a master page file in the project and name it as parent.master

Here I have named the name of the content place holder as "parent"

Now add another master page and name it as "child.master"

Here add a property called in MasterPageFile in <%@Master..%> as shown in the figure

Remove the whole code of tags to

Add in the child master page.

Now for making this master page as the master page of other page add a tag called asp:contentPlaceHolder tag.

Now add a webform page say Default.aspx in the project.

Now run the project.
