Status Check And Monitoring Of An AWS EC2 Instance

In this article, we will discuss the status check and monitoring of an AWS EC2 instance.

Status Checks

Once the EC2 instance is launched, check the Status and alarms tab.

There are 2 types of status: -

System status checks → This status specifies if the underlying hardware of an EC2 instance is working fine or not
Instance status checks → This status specifies if the operating system or the network configuration of an EC2 instance is fine or not

Monitoring

The monitoring specifies the performance of an EC2 instance.

If you want to send data to CloudWatch, you can enable detailed monitoring. For that, click on the Manage detailed monitoring button (see the picture above).

A popup window will appear. In the Detailed monitoring window, you can check the Enable checkbox and click on the Confirm button.

Once the detailed monitoring is enabled, the EC2 instance sends the data to CloudWatch after every 5 mins.
