SNS Filter Policies In AWS

In this article, we will discuss SNS filter policies in AWS.

Purpose

The filter policy adds an attribute to the subscription. Whenever the message is published by SNS, the value of the attribute is checked, and based on that, a message is sent to the subscriber.

In other words, filter policies filter the message based on the attribute value.

Steps

For implementing the filter policy, we will work on the following steps: -

Create an SNS topic and subscription
Add the filter policy to the subscription
Publish the message

Let us get started.

Create An SNS Topic And Subscription

First, create an SNS topic and subscription. Follow this link for topic and subscription creation.

Add The Filter Policy To The Subscription

To add the filter policy, click on the subscription to go to the details screen. In the details screen, click on the Edit button.

In the edit mode, scroll down to the Subscription filter policy - optional section and specify the attribute in the following format.

}

Scroll down to the bottom and click on the Save Changes button.

Publish The Message

Now, publish the message. While publishing the message, you can specify the message attribute.

You will receive an email.

But if you specify any other value, then email is not triggered.
