Amazon Simple Notification Service

In this article, we will discuss Amazon Simple Notification Service.

Purpose

The Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS) supports the publisher-subscriber model of communication.

In the publisher-subscriber model, the publisher sends a message and the subscribers (one or more than one) receives the messages. All the communication is done asynchronously.

Scenario

In this article, we will send an email to the subscriber once the message is published by the publisher.

Steps

For SNS, we will work on the following steps: -

Create a topic
Create a subscription
Confirm the email
Verify the credentials
Publish message

So, let us get started.

Create A Topic

First, search the word SNS in the search box and click on the Simple Notification Service in the search result.

The SNS screen will appear. Click on the Next step button in the Create topic section.

In the create topic screen, select the Type as Standard and enter the Name of the topic.

Scroll to the bottom and click on the Create topic button. The topic is created.

Create A Subscription

Once the topic is created, click on the Subscriptions link (See the above image). The subscription screen will appear. On the subscriptions screen, click on the Create subscription button.

In the create subscription screen, enter the following information: -

Select the topic
Set protocol as Email
Enter email id in Endpoint

Scroll down to the bottom and click on the Create subscription button. The subscription is created.

Confirm The Email

Once the subscription is created, the status of your subscription is Pending confirmation.

To confirm the subscription, check your email. In the email, click on the Confirm Subscription link in the email.

A window will open to confirm that the subscription is confirmed.

Now, the status of your subscription is Confirmed.

Verify The Credentials

Once the subscription is confirmed, you need to verify the email using Amazon Simple Email Service. You can follow this link to verify the email address.

Publish Message

To publish the message, select the topic and click on the Publish message button.

In the publish message, enter the message, and click on the Publish message button at the bottom of the screen.

You will receive an email for the message.
