Path-Based Routing In The Application Load Balancer In AWS

In this article, we will discuss path-based routing in the Application Load Balancer in AWS.

What Is Path-Based Routing?

Path-based routing means forwarding the request to the specific Target Group based on the URL path.

How To Implement Path-Based Routing?

First, create an Application Load Balancer. Once the Target Group of the Application Load Balancer is in Healthy status, select the load balancer and click on the Listeners tab.

On the Listeners tab, click on the View/edit rules of the target group.

A screen appears with the list of rules. Click on the + button.

A dotted line Insert Rule will be displayed.

Click on the dotted line. A new row is added for creating a new rule. In the rule, specify the IF (all match) and THEN sections.

Click on the Save button. The rule is created. You can add similar rules in the Application Load Balancer.

Output

If the URL contains the path /chat then the request is forwarded to tg1.
