Impact Of Disabling The Network Security Group On The Virtual Machine In Azure

In this article, we will see the impact of disabling the network security group on the virtual machine.

Impact

If you disable the network security group then all ports are enabled or in other words, there is no restriction on any port. However, it is always advisable to enable the network security group to save your virtual machines from attacks.

Example

For this article, we will work on an example where we will disable the network security group and we will access the IIS home page runs on port 80.

Create The Virtual Machine

First, create a virtual machine with NSG disabled. You can disable the NSG from the networking tab.

Once the virtual machine is created, you can see that there are no inbound and outbound rules in the networking submenu inside the virtual machine.

Installation Of IIS

After the virtual machine is created, install IIS using the custom extension.

Access IIS Home Page From The Browser

Once the IIS is installed, you can browse the IIS home page using the browser.
