Docker Swarm

In this article, we will discuss the Docker Swarm.

Purpose

The Docker Swarm is a tool to manage the cluster of Docker nodes as a single virtual system.

Prerequisite

Before reading this article, ensure Docker is installed on your machine.

Manager And Worker Nodes

In Docker Swarm, a cluster is composed of two types of nodes: manager nodes and worker nodes. These nodes work together to create a distributed and scalable environment for deploying and managing containerized applications.

Creation Of A Virtual Machine

The first step is to create a virtual machine.

Installation Of Docker

Install Docker on both the virtual machine.

Create A Manager Node

Use the following command to create the manager node: -

docker swarm init --advertise-addr [private_ip_address_of_vm]

Once you execute the code, a command will appear to add a worker in the Swarm (See the highlighted command in the above image).

Add A Worker Node

Copy the command in the above image and execute it in the second virtual machine.

Check The Manager And The Worker Node

Use the following command to check the manager and the worker nodes.

docker node ls

Docker Swarm Leave

When you execute the following command, the worker node leaves the swarm.

docker swarm leave
