Create Your Own AMI In AWS

In this article, we will create our own AMI (Amazon Machine Images) in AWS.

Creation Of An EC2 Instance

Before the creation of an AMI, an EC2 instance needs to be launched. You can follow this link to launch an EC2 instance.

Steps

For creating the image, select the instance and click on Actions → Image and templates → Create image.

A screen appears where you can specify the Image name.

Scroll down and click on the Create image button.

You image will be created.

EBS-Backed AMIs Vs. Instance-Store-Backed AMIs

In EBS-backed AMIs, the root device is an Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volume. In instance-store-backed AMIs, the root device is an instance store.

The root device is the storage device that contains the operating system.
