Create An Automated Backup Of An EBS Volume Using AWS Backup Service

In this article, we will create an automated backup of an EBS volume using the AWS Backup service.

Steps

For creating the automated backups, we will work on the following steps: -

Launch an EC2 instance
Create a backup plan
Assign Resources
Backup plan details

So, let us get started.

Launch An EC2 Instance

First, launch an EC2 instance. You can follow this link to launch an EC2 instance.

Create A Backup Plan

To create the backup plan, search the words AWS backup in the search box. Click on the AWS Backup service in the search result.

In the AWS Backup screen, click on the Create Backup plan button.

In the create backup plan screen: -

Select the option Start with a template radio button
Choose the template
Enter the Backup plan name
Click on the Create plan button

The plan is created.

Assign Resources

Once the plan is created, the page is navigated to the Assign resources screen. In the Assign resources screen, enter the Resource assignment name and select the resource in the Select specific resource types section..

In the above picture, I have selected the EBS instance for the backup. Click on the Assign resources button to assign the resource.

Backup Plan Details

Once the resource is assigned, you can click on the Backup rules section of the details screen.

You can see the details of your backup plan.
