Types Of Virtual Machine In Microsoft Azure

Families

  1. General Purpose: -
    1. Balanced CPU to memory ratio
    2. Specifically used for development, testing and low-traffic web server
    3. Offerings of general purpose VM - B, Dsv3, Dv3, Dsv2, Dv2, DS, D, Av2, and A0-7
  2. Compute optimized: -
    1. High CPU-to-memory ratio
    2. Specifically used for medium-traffic web servers, batch processes, etc.
    3. Offering of compute optimize VM - Fsv2, Fs, and F
  3. Memory optimized: -
    1. High memory to CPU ratio
    2. Specifically used for relational databases and in-memory analytics
    3. Offerings of memory optimize VM - Esv3, Ev3, M, GS, G, DSv2, DS, Dv2, and D
  4. Storage optimized: -
    1. Provides high disk throughput i.e., how fast storage can read and write data from the memory
    2. Specifically used for Big Data
    3. Offerings of storage optimize VM - E5 v3 family
  5. GPU optimized: -
    1. Provides high graphic performance
    2. Specifically used for graphic-intensive applications like AutoCAD
