Sumif Function In Excel

In this article, we will discuss sumif function in excel

Purpose

Purpose of this method is to sum the numbers in the cells of the selected range that is meeting some particular criteria.

Syntax

=SUMIF(Range, criteria)

In the above syntax

Range – Range of cells that need to be sum up.
Criteria – Condition which tells whether a particular cell in the range is included in the sum or not.

Example

Consider an example in which you are making a system for income tax department. You want to calculate the total amount of taxable income. So the requirement is

If a person is earning less than or equal to 250000 then exclude it from the sum
If a person is earning more than 250000 then include this income in the sum.

So you have used sumif function to calculate the same
