Split Window In Excel 2007

In this article I will explain how to split window in excel.

Software Requirement

Before you start reading this tutorial you should make sure that excel (any version) is installed on your machine.

Prerequisite Knowledge

Before you go ahead, it is required that you should know basics about excel.

Open A New Excel

First of all open a new excel and save it with the name ‘Split_Window_Demo.xlsx’ (you can give any name).

What Does Split Window Means?

Splitting a window means splitting excel into multiple panes.

Why It Is Required To Split Window?

Consider an example of an excel file having 20 columns and you have to calculate data in 19th and 20th columns by using data in column 1, 2 and 3. So for calculation in every row you have to scroll to the left and then scroll to the right. This approach is time consuming and error prone. To overcome this problem Microsoft has introduced split window.

How To Split Window?

To split window in excel

Select any row (or column).
Go to ‘View’ and click on ‘Split’ button as shown in figure below

Once you click on ‘Split’ you could see that excel is divided into 2 panes as shown in figure below

In the similar way you can select any row and click on ‘Split’ button to divide rows into panes as shown in figure below.

So if you consider the scenario mentioned above you can scroll right hand side pane to column 19 and 20 whereas scroll left hand side pane to column 1, 2 and 3 and you can accomplish your task quickly.

How To Remove Split?

As shown in figure above the ‘Split’ button is highlighted. It means that you have already splitted the window in panes. To remove it you have to click on the button again and panes got disappeared.
