Set Up The Billing Alert In The AWS Console

In this article, we will set up the billing alert in the AWS console.

Steps

There are 2 steps for creating an alert: -

First, search the word billing in the search box. Click on the Billing services in the search result.

In the Billing services, click on the Billing preferences menu on the left-hand side.

Check the checkboxes Receive Free Tier Usage Alerts and Receive Billing Alerts. Enter the Email Address and click on the Save preferences button.

Before going to the cloud alert, change the region to US East (N. Virginia). This step is not mandatory and should be done if required.

In the search box, search the word cloudwatch. Click on the CloudWatch services in the search result.

In the CloudWatch module, click on the Billing link in the Alarms.

A screen appears on the right-hand side. Click on the Create alarm button.

Another screen appears to specify the metrics. Click on the Select metric button.

In the Select metric screen, click on the Billing card.

On the next screen, click on the Total Estimated Charge.

Select the USD checkbox and click on the Select metric button.

Once the metric is selected, select the USD threshold value, and click on the Next button.

In the next window, create a new topic. Enter the details and click on the Create topic button.

The topic is added.

Click on the Next button. Another screen appears to enter the alarm name and description.

Click on the Next button for the final review screen.

Click on the Create alarm button and an alarm will be created.
