S3 Server Access Log In AWS

In this article, we will discuss the S3 server access log in AWS.

Purpose

Amazon S3 server access log when enabled provides the detailed log of all the requests made to the S3 bucket.

How To Enable S3 Server Access Log?

In the server access log, we require two S3 buckets (let us call them source and destination buckets). In the source bucket, we enable the S3 server access log option.

When the user sends the request to the source bucket, the target bucket stores the generated logs.

Steps

In this article, we will work on the following steps: -

Create two buckets
Enable server access log for bucket
Upload a file
Output

So, let us get started.

Create Two Buckets

First, create 2 S3 buckets. Follow this link for S3 bucket creation.

Here, gs-sourcebucket will be the source bucket and gs-targetbucket will be the target bucket.

Enable Server Access Log For Bucket

For enabling the server access log, click on the gs-sourcebucket bucket. In the details screen, click on the Properties link.

In the Properties link, scroll down to the Server access logging section.

Click on the Edit button. The following window will appear.

Select the Enable option and specify the Target bucket. Click on the Save changes button.

Upload A File

Once the server access logging is enabled, upload a file in the gs-sourcebucket bucket.

Output

After a span of 30 mins (time may be less or more), you can see the logs in the gs-targetbucket bucket.
