In this article, we will discuss route tables in Azure.

What Is A Route Table?

A route table contains the list of routes.

What Is A Route?

A route specifies the path of the traffic flow in the virtual network.

Effective Routes

The NIC (Network Interface Card) associated with the virtual machine contains the effective routes.

The effective routes contain: -

Default route
User-defined route
Any route propagated from the on-premise network

Custom Route Table

In Azure, you can create your route table. For that, search the word route table in the search box.

Click on the Route tables. A screen will appear with the list of custom route tables. Click on the +Create button.

A screen will appear to enter details of the route table.

Enter the details and click on the Review + create button for validation. Once the validation is done, click on the Create button to create the route table.

Associate A Subnet With The Route Table

Whenever you edit the subnet, you can see a Route table field to associate the subnet with the route table.
