Proximity Placement Group In Azure

In this article, we will discuss proximity placement groups in Azure.

Purpose

Consider a scenario where you have an application deployed on one virtual machine and the database is deployed on another virtual machine. You should make sure that the communication between the application and the database should be fast. In other words, there is low latency.

For that, we must ensure that the physical machines on which virtual machines are hosted are located close to each other. So, we create the proximity placement group.

A proximity placement locates the physical server close to each other so that the communication between the two machines is fast.

How To Create A Proximity Placement Group?

To create the proximity placement group, click on the + Add button.

A screen will appear to enter the proximity placement group details.

Click the Review + create button to validate the input. Once the validation is completed, click on the Create button to create the proximity placement group.

How To Assign A Proximity Placement Group In A Virtual Machine?

While creating the virtual machine, you have a field Proximity placement group in the Advanced tab.

There you can select the group.
