Prompt Command In Automation Anywhere

In this article, we will discuss about prompt command in automation anywhere.

Purpose

Prompt is an input message box that is used for entering some information by the user. Automation anywhere provide 4 options

Prompt for Value.
Prompt for File.
Prompt for Folder.
Prompt for Yes/No.

Let us discuss each option in next sections.

Prompt For Value

This prompt allows user to enter free text. Once you drag and drop this action, you will get following window.

In the above figure, we are assigning the response from the user in a variable ‘Clipboard’ and display it in message box.

So, the code will be

Now run the bot and you will get the following output.

Prompt For File

This prompt allows the user to select a file (or multiple files). Consider a scenario where we have 2 text files at a given path

Now the requirement is to get the path from prompt and display it in the message box. Let us work on each step

Drag and drop ‘Prompt For File’ and you will get following window

Here I have entered the caption, prompt message and finally assigned the output to a list.

Add a loop to loop through ‘my-list-variable’.

Add a message box to display the text.

So, the final code would be

Now run the bot and you will get following output

Prompt For Folder

This prompt allows the user to select a folder. Drag and drop the command and you will get following window.

Here I have set the caption and prompt message. We have also assign the value of selected folder to the clipboard variable.

Once you save the above window, you can also add the message box to display the value of clipboard.

Now save and run the bot and you will get following output

Prompt For Yes/No

This prompt allows the user to select either yes or no option. Drag and drop the command and you will get following window.

Here I have set the caption and prompt message. We have also assign the value to the clipboard variable.

Once you save the above window, you can also add the message box to display the value of clipboard.

Now save and run the bot and you will get following output
