Introduction To The Policy In Azure

In this article, we will introduce policy in Azure.

What Is A Policy?

A policy is a set of rules that an organization wants to enforce on the resources. For example, if an organization wants that all the virtual machines should have backup enabled. Then, an organization will create a policy that will enforce the virtual machine backup enablement.

What Is An Assessment Of Compliance?

Assessment of the compliance means to check if the resources are following the rule or not. If the resource is following the rule, then compliant else non-compliant.

How To Create A Policy?

To create a policy, search the word "policy" in the search box. Click on the "Policy" service from the search result.

In the detailed screen of the policy, click on the "Definitions" submenu.

A set of rules will appear. Click on any of the rules for which you want to check the compliance.

Click on the "Assign" button to assign the rule.

You can assign the policy rule either at the management group level or at the subscription level or at the resource group level.

For this example, I am assigning the rule at the resource group level. It means that all the virtual machines under the resource groups will be checked for the compliances.

Enter all the details and click on the "Review + create" button for data validation. Once the data validation is done, click on the "Create" button to assign the rule.

Check The Compliance

Please note that it will take maximum 30 minutes to check the compliance. After 30 mins, check the policy about the non-compliances.
