Introduction To Azure AD Services

In this article, we will introduce Azure AD services. Let us discuss some of the basics first.

What Does A Software Organization Contain?

A software organization contains the following: -

An employee
Resources (like software or hardware)

What Are The Policies Of An Organization?

A policy means a set of rules about which resource can be accessed by which employee.

Authentication And Authorization

Authentication means checking if the user has the right to enter the system. Authorization means that once the user has entered the system which resources, he/she can access.

Consider an example of an organization with the name ABC. An employee comes in the morning, swipes his access card, and once validated, he can enter the company’s premises. So, an employee is authenticated.

Once the employee enters the premises of the organization, there are three bays in the building i.e., bay 1, bay 2, and bay 3.

An employee can only enter bay 3 if he is a part of the client project. So, all the employees who are not part of the client project are not authorized to enter Bay 3.

What Is An Azure Active Directory?

An Azure active directory is a cloud-based service used for the authentication and authorization of SAAS applications.

What Is A Tenant?

A tenant is an organization under which the groups and user accounts are added.

What Is A Service Principal?

It is the access policy for the user in the Azure AD tenant.

How Is Azure Active Directory Different From Windows Server Active Directory?

* The group policy in Windows server active directory can be applied at the LSDOU level. L → Local, S → Site, D → Domain, OU → Organizational Unit
