Instance Creation In Javascript

Before we understand instanceof operator in JavaScript, let us check how to create an instance in JavaScript. Here are some of the example of creating an instance.

var date = new Date();
var obj = new Object();

In the above example, date is an instance of Date() and obj is an instance of Object().

Purpose Of Instanceof

Purpose of instanceof is to check the type of an instance.

Syntax

instanceName Instanceof ObjectType

Example

<script type="text/javascript">
        var date = new Date();
        var obj = new Object();
        alert(date instanceof Date);
        alert(obj instanceof Date);
</script>

Try It

If you run the above code, you see that first alert will return true and second alert will return false. The reason is, date is an instance of Date() while obj is an instance of Object() (not Date()) or in other words type of date is Date() and type of obj is Object().
