How To Create Datastax Astra DB

This article explains how to create DataStax Astra DB.

Vector Database

A vector database is a database designed to store and search AI embeddings (vectors) using similarity search.

Datastax Astra DB

DataStax Astra DB is a managed cloud database service built on Apache Cassandra that adds features like vector search, making it useful for AI and RAG applications.

Create Database

Visit the following URL and sign in.

https://astra.datastax.com

Click the Create database button.

A screen will appear to enter the database name. Enter the following details.

Parameter	Value
Database type	Serverless (vector)
Database name	langchain_db
Provider	Amazon Web Services
Region	us-east-2

The database initialization process will start. It may take some time to create a database. Once the database is created, you will see the following screen.

Token Generation

Once the database is created, click the Connection details button. The following screen will appear.

Enter the Token description, Expiration and click the Generate token button. The token will be generated.

Create Collection

To create the collection, go to the Data Explorer tab and click the Create collection button.

The following screen will appear.

Enter the details and click the Create collection button.
