Geo-Replication Of Azure SQL Database

In this article, we will discuss the geo-replication of the Azure SQL database.

Purpose

Geo-replication means creating a read-only copy of a database (called a secondary database) in the same or different data centers. The geo-replication is designed for business continuity i.e., in case of failover, the application will switch over to the secondary database.

The synchronization between the primary and secondary databases is done asynchronously.

How To Create Geo-Replication?

To create a geo-replication: -

Go to the database
On the left-hand side menu, click on Settings → Geo-Replication

In the screen, select the region in the Target Regions section

On selecting the region, a screen will appear to enter the details of the target region

Enter the details and click on the Ok button
Secondary database is created
