File Recovery Using The Azure Backup Service

In this article, we will recover files from the virtual machine using the Azure backup service.

Steps

In this article, we will work on the following steps: -

Create a text file in the virtual machine
Take the backup of the virtual machine using the Azure backup service
Click on the File Recovery options to recover the file

Create A Text File In The Virtual Machine

First, create a text file inside the C drive of the virtual machine.

Enable Backup While Creating The Virtual Machine

While creating the virtual machine, check the Enable backup checkbox in the Management tab.

Take The Backup Of The Virtual Machine Using The Azure Backup Service

It is assumed that you have enabled the backup service when you have created the virtual machine. To start the backup, click on the Backup Now.

Once you click on the Backup Now button, the following screen will appear.

Here, you can select the recovery point and click on the Ok button. The backup will start. Once the backup is completed, the option File Recovery will be enabled.

Click On The File Recovery Options To Recover The File

Once you click on the File Recovery option, the screen will appear to download the executable file.

Once you click on the Download Executab… button, a process will start to generate the script and password.

Once the script and password are generated, the Download button is enabled. Click on the button to download the executable file.

Open the EXE file in admin mode. A command prompt is opened. Enter the password and press enter.

There will be 2 times this password screen will appear. Once the password is entered, a PowerShell will open in the admin mode.

Once the connection is established, you can see that 2 drives are added to your local system.

In the G drive, you can see the file that you have created in the virtual machine.

Finally, click on the Unmount Disks button to complete the process.
