Failover Group In Azure SQL

In this article, we will discuss the failover group in Azure SQL.

Purpose

In case of failover, the application, or the user switch to the secondary database. As both the connection string (Primary and secondary database) is different.

So, there could be a temporary halt in case of a switchover. To address this concern, Azure has given one option to create a failover group.

How To Create A Failover Group?

To create a failover group: -

Click on the section with the text - You can automatically manage replication, connectivity, and failover of this database by adding it to the failover group

A screen will appear where you can enter the details

Once the details are entered, click on the Create button to create the failover group

Benefit

The benefits of a failover group are: -

An application can use the single database connection string
Switching from a primary to a secondary database is automatic
