Elastic IP Addresses In AWS

In this article, we will discuss elastic IP addresses in AWS.

Purpose

Whenever the EC2 stops and starts again, the public IP address of an EC2 instance is lost. To keep the public IP address intact, we use Elastic IP address.

How To Create An Elastic IP Address?

To create an elastic IP address, search the word elastic ip in the search box. Click on the Elastic IPs service in the search result.

A screen will appear to create the IP address. Click on the Allocate Elastic IP address button.

Following screen appears. Enter the information and click on the Allocate button.

The Elastic IP address will be created.

How To Associate Elastic IP Addresses To EC2?

For association, select the Elastic IP address and go to Actions → Associate Elastic IP address.

A screen appears where you can select the EC2 instance.

Select the EC2 instance and click on the Associate button to complete the association.

Public, Private And Elastic IP Address

Public IP Address	Private IP Address	Elastic IP Address
Public IP Address is lost when instance is stopped	Private IP Address is retained when instance is stopped	Elastic IP Address is the static IP address that is not changed when the instance is stopped and then restarted
Public IP Address is used for public subnets	Private IP Address is used in public and private subnets	Elastic IP Address is chargeable
There will no charge of using Public IP Address
Public IP Address cannot be moved between the instances
