In this article, we will discuss the EC2 spot instance in AWS.

What Is An EC2 Spot Instance?

Whenever an EC2 instance is allocated to the customer, the AWS always reserves the extra capacity to deal with the surge in demand. This extra capacity is allocated to other clients to run their applications at much cheaper rates.

This extra capacity EC2 instance is called the EC2 spot instance.

Drawback Of Using The EC2 Spot Instance

In case there is a surge in demand, AWS terminates the EC2 spot instance with short notice.

How To Launch An EC2 Spot Instance?

To launch an EC2 spot instance, go to the EC2 dashboard and click on the Spot Requests link.

The following screen will appear. Click on the Request Spot Instances button.

The Create Spot Fleet Request screen will appear. Enter the information.

Click on the Launch button at the bottom of the screen. The spot instance is created.
