Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Vs. Solid State Drive (SSD)







Data Tier




  1. Hot tier → Data that is frequently accessed
  2. Cold tier → Data that is less frequently accessed and stored for at least 30 days
  3. Archive tier → Data that is rarely accessed and stored for at least 180 days

Different Storage Type




  1. Standard HDD → This disk is used for
    1. Web servers
    2. Lightly used enterprise application
    3. Dev/test machine
  2. Standard SSD → This disk is used for
    1. Back up
    2. Non-critical applications
    3. Applications or data that require infrequent access
  3. Premium SSD → Used in production and performance-sensitive workloads
  4. Ultra-disk → Used for transaction heavy workload
