Create An Index In Mongodb

In this article, we will create an index in MongoDB.

Purpose

In MongoDB, you can create indexes to improve the performance of your queries by efficiently retrieving and sorting data.

Syntax

// Create index in ascending order
db.[collection].createIndex({ field_name: 1 })

// Create index in descending order
db.[collection].createIndex({ field_name: -1 })

Dropping An Index

To drop an index, we will use the following syntax: -

db.[collection].dropIndex("index_name")

Get The List Of Indexes

To get the list of indexes, we will use the following syntax: -

db.[collection].getIndexes()
