In this article, we will discuss countif function in excel

Purpose

Purpose of this method is to count the numbers of cells in the selected range that is meeting some particular criteria.

=COUNTIF(Range, criteria)

In the above syntax

Range – Range of cells to be counted.
Criteria – Condition which tells whether a particular cell in the range is included in the count or not.

Consider an example in which you are making a task list with the status column. See the following figure.

Our requirement is to get the count of task that are done. To accomplish that I am using countif function. See the following figure
