Change The Replication Type Of The Storage Account In Azure

In this article, we will discuss some aspects of changing the replication type of the storage account in Azure.

Change The Replication Type Of The Storage Account

To change the replication type, click on the "Configuration" submenu inside the "settings" menu of the storage account. In the "Configuration" screen, scroll down to the "Replication" dropdown.

Change the replication type and click on the "Save" button.

Can We Convert LRS To ZRS?

There is no option to change the LRS replication type to ZRS using the Azure portal. But you can do that using the following 2 ways: -

Manual migration - In this type of migration, you perform the following activities: -
1. Create a new storage account (destination storage account) with the replication type as ZRS
2. Copy the content by executing the copy commands
Live migration - In this type of replication, you contact Microsoft to perform the migration

Do We Have Any Downtime In Manual Or Live Migration?

In the case of manual migration, there is downtime because you want to ensure that no new content is added to the storage account at the time of migration.

In the case of live migration, there is no downtime.

Does Access-Tier Play In Any Role During The Migration?

Yes, all the contents in the storage account should be either in the hot or cold access tier. If any content is in the archive tier, then you must change it to either the hot or the cold access tier.
