What Is A Building Block?

A building block is a fundamental, reusable component of a larger system or structure, providing a specific function or capability. It is a modular element that can be combined with others to create more complex systems.

Building Block Categories

There are two categories of building blocks: -

Architecture Building Block (ABB)

This category defines what functionality will be implemented. It captures the business and technical requirements.

Solution Building Block (SBB)

This category defines what products and components will implement the functionality. In other words, the SBB defines the implementation.
