Break And Continue Statements In PHP

To understand this article, you should know how the loop works.

Break Statement

The break statement exits the loop.

Consider an example of a loop that contains 10 iterations. If on fifth iteration break statement encounters then the rest of the iterations i.e., 6th to 10th will not happen, and code execution after the loop will continue.

Let us work on an example.

for ($i = 1; $i < 10; $i++) {
    echo $i;

    if ($i == 5)
       break;

The output of this program is "012345".

Continue Statement

The continue statement jumps one iteration of the loop.

Consider an example of a loop that contains 10 iterations. If on the fifth iteration continue statement encounters then that iteration i.e., 5th skips, and the rest of the iterations i.e., 6th to 10th continue to execute.

Let us work on an example.

for ($i = 1; $i < 10; $i++) {
    echo $i;

    if ($i == 5)
       continue;

The output of this program is "123456789".
