AWS RDS Proxy

In this article, we will discuss AWS RDS Proxy.

Purpose

RDS proxy sits between your database and the application. The benefit of creating an RDS proxy is that it improves application pooling by reducing the number of open connections.

How To Enable RDS Proxy?

While creating a new database, you have the option to enable an RDS proxy.

In the instruction text below the Create an RDS Proxy checkbox, the RDS proxy creates the following components: -

IAM role
Secret

Once the database is created, the following components are created.

For enabling the proxy in the existing database, you can follow these steps: -

Create a secret using the secret manager
Create an IAM role
Create an RDS proxy
