Averageif Function In Excel

In this article, we will discuss AverageIf function in excel

Purpose

Purpose of this function is to calculate the average of the numbers in the cells of the selected range that is meeting some particular criteria.

Syntax

=AVERAGEIF(Range, criteria)

In the above syntax

Range – Range of cells where average needs to be calculated.
Criteria – Condition which tells whether a particular cell in the range is included in the average calculation or not.

Example

Let us work on both Average and AverageIf functions to identify the difference the two.

In the above image, we have put a condition that if data is less than or equal to 1, then exclude it from the calculation. So the function AverageIf is calculating the average like 2+3+4/3 = 3.
