In this article, we will discuss autoscaling in RDS.

Purpose

RDS autoscaling automatically scales the storage capacity of the database based on the increased or decreased workloads.

The main benefit of autoscaling is that there is no downtime.

Drawback Of Manual Scaling

The main drawbacks of manual scaling of the database are: -

Continuous monitoring of storage space is required
Downtime is required for storage space provisioning
Overprovisioning could result in the underutilization of resources

How To Enable RDS Auto Scaling?

When the RDS is modified, check the checkbox Enable storage autoscaling and specify the maximum storage size.
